Utah Dancer to Star in Billy Elliot on Broadway

How cool is this? Tade Biesinger, a 11-year-old dancer from Bountiful, has been chosen to star in the musical Billy Elliot on Broadway!
Just today, the show put out a press release announcing that he’s the 13th young boy to star in the Tony award-winning musical that opened on Broadway in 2008.
He’s been out in New York City rehearsing for the past couple of months and will make his debut on May 15.
Tade trained at Dance Impressions in Bountiful and Ballet West Academy. He played the role of Fritz in Ballet West’s Nutcracker last year and won the New York City Dance Alliance National Mini Outstanding Dancer award this summer.
He’s an amazing dancer and young man and will represent Utah extremely well!  We’ll post more articles and videos when we see them!
Break a leg, Tade!

Support Utah Dancers, Education

Each summer, the New York City Dance Alliance gives scholarships to dancers who excel at its national competition in New York City. Last year, for example, it gave away $500,000 in college scholarships! The goal this year is $1 million. To help achieve this goal, NYCDA formed the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation – an IRS approved 501(c)(3) public charity. The Foundation is dedicated to investing in the next generation of professional dancers by offering scholarships for secondary and college education.

Director Joe Lanteri has been asking studios and their communities to get involved. Here’s where you can help. For every $3,000 in donations your dance studio contributes to the NYCDAF National Fundraising Campaign, one dancer from your studio may attend a special July 31st private $50,000+ College Scholarship Audition. The campaign runs through June 30.

Dancers not affiliated with a particular studio are welcome to participate in the fundraising independently. All the same terms and conditions apply, however.

Even better, 50 percent of the proceeds your studios brings in will be allocated to assisting a dancer in Utah – to be fully distributed over the next three years.

So how do you donate? Contact your studio directly to see if they’re participating (The Dance Club, Center Stage and Dance Impressions are all long-time NYCDA supporters) or donate directly at the following link:

Share the link with friends and family too.  It’s a great way to support the arts in Utah and nationally!

Countdown to NYC: NYCDA Next Week in Phoenix

Next weekend, The Dance Club’s Senior Company team travels to Phoenix for the last regional competition of the New York City Dance Alliance. They’re  qualifying their remaining numbers for the national competition in New York City this summer, while hoping to add a few more Outstanding Dancers to the mix.

Over the next few months, some of these dancers will share their experiences and thoughts on NYCDA, what it takes to be an Outstanding Dancer and how they handle disappointment if they don’t win.  We’ll also get some insight on how to have a successful competition/convention from NYCDA faculty such as Joey Dowling and director Joe Lanteri.

What would you like to ask them?

The Dance Club Shines at Year-End Concert

While it’s only mid-April, the 2010-2011 dance season is inching to a close, with The Dance Club kicking off the first of many year-end concerts from studios throughout Utah this spring.  On April 9, the studios’ competitive teams, beginning jazz and ballet classes, and even the special-needs class performed more than 40 dances choreographed by The Dance Club’s award-winning teachers and outside, nationally renowned choreographers such as Joey Dowling, Jacki Ford and Dana Wilson.

Misty Mathews captured some amazing photos! Check out some of my favorites below…Which one is your favorite?
